RESOURCES NEEDED FOR CAI

Pages 18-24 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract:

CAI resources for R and D are discussed under these headings: hardware, software, personnel, funding and facilities. Functions of the central processor, auxiliary stores and input‐output units are considered. The computer program or operating system and the assembler and its author‐entry language are next discussed. CAI implications for curriculum are introduced with reference to “dry” versus “wet” laboratory work, the Sumerian game and the computer's capacity for information retrieval. Personnel needs flowing from the disparate skills involved in CAI and the costs of a modest R and D system are outlined.
