The Place of Sound within the Learning Systems at Millfield

Abstract

This article reports an account of the work that has been carried out within the Educational Resources Faculty at Millfield School involving the use of sound recordings in group and individual learning systems. A brief description of the systems developed for departments is presented together with information on the Resources for Learning Centre. The paper concentrates upon the advantages for the pupil in the use of this approach and the effects upon the role of the teacher.

Spencer Griffiths

Spencer Griffiths, B.Sc.(Hons), was seconded to Wiltshire Programmed Learning and Educational Technology Unit while serving as Head of Mathematics at Bentley Grammar School, Calne, Wiltshire. After appointment at Millfield School in 1969, he took charge of Programmed Learning and the Resources for Learning Centre.

Peter Turner

Peter Turner is Director of the Educational Resources Faculty at Millfield. He was first given responsibility for the development of resources within the school in 1967.
