Pages 258-264 | Published online: 28 Jun 2007

Abstract

W.D.R. Cologne now broadcasts 35 series of radio programs to schools; of these, 18, including language series in English and French, have free teacher's workbooks. There are also work sheets for pupils. English is studied as a compulsory subject from the age of ten throughout the remainder of school life. The three 15‐minute series English for Beginners, English for Juniors and English for Seniors are generally used as a supplement to the school course. Constituents of the series, with brief examples from programs, are given for the three stages; there is also a quotation from a work sheet.
