The Role of Radio and Television in Teaching in France

Abstract

This article explains the role of O.F.R.A.T.E.M.E., the variety of its productions and the allocation of its resources to the various levels of schooling. Consideration is given to the educational situation and to the place within the school of broadcast audio resources. Due mention is made of relationships between the child and sound whether employed imaginatively or as language. However effective a radio or audio tape production may be, there are some aspects of experience which are best communicated through pictures, so radiovision is treated in some detail.

“When the program has ended, the most important work remains to be done” introduces a section in words which all teachers will recognise as being vital to the full exploitation of such an experience if the listeners are to derive maximum benefit from it.
