CASE STUDY

Supporting Adult Learners in a Practical Environment: A ‘Low Tech’ Approach

Pages 46-48 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

The case study is based on an open learning programme for management and supervisory personnel in industry. The programme was designed as a low structure/high autonomy programme for committed learners. An existing menu‐type programme was replaced by an a la carte approach, which meant that the tutor could sequence the programme according to the changing needs of the student. Various changes are required in the student support system: alternative learning approaches; negotiated assignments; and tutor as mentor.
