The Retention of a Skill Following Distributed Training

&
Pages 182-186 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

Speculative training may of necessity be distributed over two or more periods separated by intervals of unemployment. It can be predicted from Jost's Laws in verbal learning (1897) that a distributed training regime gives better retention. Two experiments are described comparing retention on a video game skill under continuous and distributed training schedules. Results confirm the prediction and theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
