Case Study: Interactive Video and Language Learning

Pages 146-154 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

Many distance learning packages for foreign language learning are out of tune with modern ideas on language learning, and in them the methodology has been becoming the slave of the computer. Interactive video offers new techniques which overcome this problem. In addition, these techniques imply the creation of a new methodology, with the learner taking control of the learning process as the material adapts to the needs of the user. Expodisc Spanish shows how the use of natural language, even for near beginners, is possible since the courseware offers many levels of help ‐ subtitles, instant replay, exercises and explanations, and background information.
