Pages 249-253 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

STARNET is an ambitious distance‐learning project based at Polytechnic South West, Plymouth, UK which is utilizing time on the Olympus satellite allocated to the UK Department of Employment Training Agency to deliver interactive televised training programmes across Western Europe. In addition to providing 52 hours of real training by April 1991 — with relevant supporting material — the project will also provide a basis for assessing the viability of this type of delivery for meeting future training needs. Several different categories of both programming and audience have therefore been targeted.
