Management Development and Academic Staff Development Through Action Learning and Action Research

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show the development of a new approach to improving managerial and educational performance in government, industry and higher education. Recent literature in management education and development as well as in higher education point to action learning and action research as the appropriate methods to develop managerial and professional competencies required for the present and future times of rapid change. This paper presents some examples of action research and of links between the university, government and industry sectors. These examples may be of significance to other institutions and organizations wishing to introduce action research and process management.
