SUMMARY

Often new technologies are applied to education without changing the traditional schemes of instruction. With the project described here we attempt to make appropriate use of the attractive pedagogic features of hypermedia so that it can be used with our pupils as a positive stimulus during teaching and learning processes. This new technology is introduced progressively. This enables students to become active participants in their higher education courses and also develops a feeling for their own significance within it. The project is being developed with a number of small groups of students and teachers who work co‐operatively to develop hypermedia material on different topics of a subject (in our case Medical Physics). Our experience with this project allows us to establish an educational environment in which creativity and imagination are stimulated. Reasoning arid criticism on the part of students are also encouraged. This results in not only an increased rate of significant learning but also facilitates human improvement within all those participating in the project.
