The Professional Development of Teachers in Higher Education: Structures, Methods and Responsibilities

Pages 99-107 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

SUMMARY

This paper describes a rationale behind the processes and methods used in professional development programmes and considers what we can learn, from this combined experience, about how to support the professional development of teachers in higher education. Although the focus of the programmes is on initial training for teachers, many of the processes in use are equally valid for continuing professional development.
