Peer Mentoring: Making a Difference at James Cook University, Cairns It's Moments Like These You Need Mentors

Pages 236-243 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

SUMMARY

This paper adds to the literature on mentoring in its discussion of the successful application of a peer‐mentoring programme in a small university campus in tropical north‐eastern Australia. The Student Mentor programme at James Cook University Cairns has been evolving for eight years and is still developing with student and staff initiatives. The ethos of the programme involves the offer of a friendly helping hand from a continuing student for each new student in his or her first semester. The paper could be useful for those currently involved with or setting up a peer mentoring programme.
