Abstract
In April 2024, the United States hosted the leaders of Japan and the Philippines on historically significant visits to Washington. The US and Japan announced nearly 80 new and recent initiatives in the realms of defence and security and, at a trilateral summit, the parties made new commitments to regional security in the context of China’s recent assertive actions against the Philippines.
