Industrial medicine: A means of avoiding failure

In contrast to technical matters where normally the failure of a system or appliance can be attributed to a particular cause, the case of individuals in the working world is different. The appearance of a particular ailment in a worker or employee may have various causes which combine and interrelate one with the other. Therefore, determining the main cause is difficult, and curing and taking effective countermeasures are even more so. Thus, industrial loss from workers' and employees' illnesses amounts to millions. This is why industrial medicine, which tries to determine the causes and prevent resulting drawbacks for all those involved, has become an important field.
