What Do High School Students and Their Parents Expect from Higher Education? A case study of South Korea

Pages 183-196 | Published online: 03 Aug 2010

This study analyzed the benefits that high school students and their parents expect from higher education in Korea. The majority of high school students expected a 'diverse college experience', while the majority of parents expected 'protection from socioeconomic disadvantages from not having higher education'. Multivariate analyses of variance for the expectations of the benefits by parental income and students' academic ability between high school students and parents were conducted. Students' academic ability was an important criterion in determining students' and their parents' expectations of the benefits of higher education.
