Pages 311-328 | Published online: 10 May 2010

Abstract

Work on, and use of standards for electronic data interchange (EDI) has become an important aspect in the development of information technology. This article elaborates on two implications of EDI standardisation. First, it considers to what extent the boundaries of standardisation are determined by legal mechanisms. Second, it sets some first steps towards a better understanding of how the use of EDI standards affects and challenges fundamental legal concepts.
