About the special issue
The International Review of Law, Computers & Technology (IRLCT) and the guest editors Edina Harbinja and Jef Ausloos are pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue, entitled ‘New and Upcoming Legal Challenges of Social Media’. This special issue, which will be published in late 2018, invites submissions that investigate legal, regulatory and policy issues relating to social media.
The purpose of this special issue is to provide high-quality scholarly insights into present and future legal challenges in the context of social media, focusing particularly on innovative topics and perspectives in the discourse. This special issue welcomes legal scholars from different fields to submit papers. Cross-disciplinary and collaborative work is strongly encouraged. Policy notes are also welcome with insights from practitioners, industry or civil society.
The 2018 Special Issue of IRLCT seeks international submissions presenting insights into (but not limited to) the following topics:
Social media and new privacy and data protection challenges;
IP and social media;
Regulation, policy, technology and the development of social media;
Social media, political discourse and law;
Crime and social media;
Algorithms, AI and social media;
Virtual reality, social media and law;
Internet of things and social media;
Competition law/platform monopolies and social media;
Application of fundamental human rights on social media;
Surveillance/Information Capitalism and social media.

All submissions will be subject to double-blind peer-review. Articles of up to 10,000 words will be considered.

IRLCT is devoted to the academic study of the challenges brought about by the development, use and ubiquity of information technologies. The Review recognises the opportunities created by these technologies but strives to examine and explore the ownership and control of such technologies, as well as considering the nature and form of the legal regulatory framework required to effectively manage them.
