NOTE An analysis of e‐mail communication

Pages 59-62 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

This note takes a communication studies perspective on the e‐mail interactions between students and faculty, and argues that e‐mail messages may be a significant force in academic development for several reasons. E‐mail interactions may be the medium of choice for some persons, may constitute a relationship, and may represent an important form of international and intercultural dialogue. The essay is organized around five communication topics: apprehension, diversity, face‐to‐face communication, humour, and tone.
