Abstract

This paper investigates the ability of the Commonwealth Games, held in Manchester in 2002, to influence social renewal, particularly in the fields of education and those skills leading to future employability, in a deprived locality. It seeks to discover the success to date of two programmes in terms of their attempts to alleviate social exclusion in East Manchester through both the examination of the partnerships involved and consultation with those involved.
