Thermal behaviour during the inward solidification of cylinders and spheres and the correlation with structural effects

Abstract

This study presents an analytical heat transfer model which permits the characterisation of the thermal behaviour during cylindrical or spherical solidification. A reversion point which physically separates two regions of different thermal behaviour is also determined. The influence on solidification structure represented by cellular or dendritic spacings is examined.
