Abstract
Decommissioning of nuclear facilities will generate a large amount of low level wastes. In order to utilize the waste, a new casting process suitable for recycling radioactive metallic waste has been investigated through partial and cubic model tests, aiming at the fabrication of a waste container.
To simulate the experiments by calculations two commercial software were jointly used: JS-CAST (FDM) for the solidification analysis and MARC (FEM) for the distortion analysis. Solidification analysis considered flow of molten metal was in good agreement with the test results. Maximum deformation of the cubic castings occurred in the center part of each plane and the displacement in the inside direction agreed well with the calculated one.
