ABSTRACT

In this paper, the effects of Zn content on the mechanical and damping properties of Mg-0.6%Zr were investigated. The mechanical and damping properties of Mg-0.6%Zr-x%Zn samples were evaluated using tensile testing and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The results showed that the mechanical properties of the alloy could be improved significantly by adding Zn, and that the damping properties of the alloy were high. The as-cast Mg-0.6% Zr-1.0% Zn exhibited excellent mechanical properties, exhibiting σb=171MPa and σ0.2=77MPa. The alloy also had high damping capacity, with a damping value greater than 0.01.
