Solubility of hydrogen in liquid aluminium: reanalysis of available data

Pages 315-318 | Received 17 Oct 2019, Accepted 12 Jan 2020, Published online: 30 Jan 2020

ABSTRACT

Data for solubility of hydrogen in liquid aluminium from 17 studies have been reanalysed, based on the concept that solubility refers to maximum concentration that can be held in solution. Analysis has shown that maximum points clearly follow a trend. These maximum points are recommended as the best available data for hydrogen solubility in liquid Al. A new solubility equation based on the maximum data is provided, which estimates a solubility that is 33% higher than the solubility equation widely accepted in the literature.
