Abstract

We have synthesized Fe11Cu11 (obbz) 5H2O (obbz = N,N 1-oxamido bis(benzoato)) which exhibits a non-magnetic ground state, arising from antiferromagnetically coupled Fe2+Cu2+ pairs. Upon dehydration, we obtained FeCu(obbz)1H2O which is a soft ferromagnet below about 10K, but unlike MnCu(obbz) 5H2O and [CoCu(obbz)(H2O)4] 2H2O it is not a sponge, that is it cannot reabsorb water spontaneously under ambient conditions.
