Vibrational versus relaxational contribution for disaccharide-water glass formers: Neutron scattering evidence

Abstract

The results of neutron scattering measurements performed on trehalose-H2O and sucrose-H2O mixtures are reported. Measurements have been carried out using the time-of-flight spectrometer MIBEMOL at the Laboratoire Leon Brillouin (Saclay). The investigated temperature range was 88-283 K. The study is principally addressed to the evaluation of the relative weight of vibrational over relaxational contributions of homologous disaccharide-H2O glass formers. The comparison with literature data allows us to characterize their different degrees of fragility.
