Abstract
A general theory of eddy-current damping for two-dimensional magnetization configurations in parallel-sided sheets has been developed. Eddy-current losses in 1000 Å thick Permalloy films are shown to be negligible with respect to the intrinsic loss mechanism, in contradistinction to the estimates of O'Dell (1979). Eddy-current losses are estimated to become equal to losses due to the intrinsic mechanism at a thickness of ≃ 5200 Å in Permalloy.
