Photodarkening in glassy chalcogenide systems

Abstract

The composition dependence of reversible photodarkening for some binary and ternary chalcogenide glasses is studied. The maximum of the photodarkening is observed for all systems at a composition for which the average coordination number is 2·65. This empirical rule is discussed on the basis of the bond-twisting model for the photodarkening.
