Internal friction in metallic glasses at intermediate temperatures

Pages 185-198 | Received 28 Nov 1986, Accepted 15 Jan 1987, Published online: 20 Aug 2006

Abstract

Some experimental results obtained on metallic glasses of different compositions by means of internal friction and dynamic Young's modulus measurements, carried out between room temperature and the glass-transition temperature, are reported and discussed qualitatively. The results are examined with particular reference to structural relaxation phenomena and plastic deformation, paying particular attention to the specific role of the free volume and internal-stress distribution in determining the anelastic spectra.
