Final-state rule and X-ray absorption in some alkali halides

Abstract

A method is presented for the calculation of the imaginary part of the dielectric constant when the transition involves a core level in an insulator. The resulting expression takes into account both the exciton effect and the interband transition. A qualitative discussion of the X-ray absorption spectra in alkali halides is given, in terms of the method used, for a simple model.
