Abstract

The structures for metastable phases of Li2O-TiO2, called H1 and H2, were studied by transmission electron microscopy. Both of them belong to the trigonal system. The space group of the H1 phase is R3c. The lattice parameters of the hexagonal unit cell are a 1 =0.514, c 1 =7.02 nm for H1 and a 2 =0.514, c 2 =0.936 nm for H2. The probable space groups of H2 are P3, P3, p321, P3ml and P3ml. The phenomenon of intergrowth of H1 and H2 has been observed frequently. It is also found that there is some rutile TiO2 sandwiched between H phases, and their orientation relationship has been confirmed to be as follows:
