Abstract

The dislocation structure of interfaces between f.c.c. copper and b.c.c. iron in a two phase Cu—25 wt% Fe alloy has been studied, for two different orientation relationships between the phases, using a development of the image-matching method to identify the Burgers vectors of the dislocations. The interfaces contain three arrays of dislocations and, in each array, the dislocations form parts of parallel planar loops with the spacings of the dislocations varying with the plane of the interface. Image matching showed that the Burgers vectors of the dislocations were not lattice vectors but were vectors of a DSC lattice. For each orientation relationship the dislocation structure of the interface was analysed in terms of a coincident site lattice—DSC model which predicted dislocation loop planes and dislocation spacings in agreement with those observed.
