Transport in polymers

Abstract

Conduction processes in polymers depend on the degree of order in the material. In crystalline materials such as polydiacetylene, polaron and bipolaron transport are indeed possible. The same is true for the partially ordered materials in the polyacetylene category. The disordered materials, however, are usually well described by hopping conductivity either in equilibrium or in non-equilibrium situations. Two interesting and controversial questions remain. One is related to the role of Coulomb interactions and the other is related to high-field transport characteristics. We shall examine these questions in this paper.
