Polarization-induced localization and chaos-related detrapping in a harmonically perturbed nonlinear two-site model

Abstract

We demonstrate that detrapping from localized states in a nonlinear polarizable medium perturbed by a harmonic modulation of the intersite matrix element is connected with a transition from regular to chaotic behaviour. Plots are presented which illustrate the evolution of the detrapping process as a function of the strength of the external perturbation.
