On the role of transitional solute elements in Hume-Rothery-Jones phases

Abstract

Transitional solute elements act as apparent electron acceptors in the Hume-Rothery-Jones phases met in crystalline and quasicrystalline alloy phases of ‘normal’ metals. The qualitative explanation presented earlier is re-examined and its conclusions somewhat modified.
