Structure of silica aerogels and vibrational dynamics in fractal materials and glasses: Electron microscopy and low-frequency Raman scattering

Abstract

Electron microscopy observations are presented to determine the structure of silica aerogels and the fractal domains. The model of Raman scattering from disordered fractal materials is discussed. The localized acoustic modes in glasses are compared with fractons.
