Abstract

Extending a previous study by Zhang et al., we have used Monte Carlo computer simulation to explore in detail the manner in which the impurity correlation factor deviates from the ‘cosine relation’ and the ‘impurity form relation’, in a model of the stoichiometric binary alloy (king magnet analogue). Above the order-disorder temperature these two relations are followed very well, but below the order-disorder temperature there are deviations which increase as the temperature is lowered. The findings show clearly why the measured isotope effect in an ordered alloy is not simply related to the tracer correlation factor.
