Abstract

The contribution of three-phonon processes to the thermal conductivity of dielectric crystals is rigorously described in the frame of an isotropic model and expressed in terms of the interatomic pair potential. In this way the final formula does not contain adjustable parameters and represents a reliable tool to evaluate the weight of the above processes: for Ar and Kr they are shown to be sufficient to explain the experimental values of the conductivity.
