Abstract
A Short range pair interactions are derived in order to calculate the Madelung energy of random binary alloys. It is pointed out that the energy contribution due to charge fluctuations is proportional to the on-site term in mean field theory. The effect of charge transfer on phase transitions is then demonstrated in the case of Cu x Au1−x systems. In our example, it is found that by including charge corrections the transition temperatures are in better agreement with experiment than when using the bare generalized peturbation method pair interactions.
