Abstract
The equations governing the forces exerted by grains in contact in a granular material resemble the conservation laws formulae in quantum field theories and network statistical mechanics. These are more conservation equations than in these problems, but it is still possible to invent a field theory that proves a rapid way to derive mean-field and fluctuation approximations.
