Long-range polarization interactions of metal clusters

Pages 1401-1411 | Published online: 20 Aug 2009

Abstract

The high electric polarizability of metal nanoclusters gives rise to strong long-range attractive potentials. We review a variety of phenomena in which polarization interactions play a critical role. The topics include electron-cluster scattering, capture and emission processes, cluster fission, and dispersion forces. Experimental manifestations as well as theoretical challenges are discussed.
