Growth in residential services in Australia and the United States: 1997–2002

1. This percentage, and the data shown in Fig. 1, are based on published Australian data reported by AIHW (e.g., AIHW, Citation2003a, Citation2003b). Due to the introduction of a statistical linkage key from 1999 on (to identify individual consumers who used more than one service on the snapshot day) comparisons with data from previous years may be slightly inaccurate. Unpublished AIHW data (P. Anderson, personal communication, May 19, 2005) for 1999–2002 on services received may provide more accurate comparisons. These data indicate growth in Australian residential services by 2002 of 6.33% relative to 1997. Although this rate is a little higher than that reported in the text, it does not change the conclusion about the absence of real growth in residential provision.
