Abstract
Drawing on interview data from 18 Registered Inspectors, the article examines their perceptions of their role, particularly their perception of how school inspection can contribute to improvement. A major finding is that Registered Inspectors identify a lacuna in the system in that there is no easily available source of advice and guidance to help schools meet the Key Issues thrown up by inspection. Finally some consideration is given to how CPD might contribute to school improvement by helping schools to plan to meet Key Issues
