Abstract
It is confirmed using spectroelectrochemical measurements that in the presence of gelatin the oxidation product of p-phenylenediamines is consumed to produce a substance which possesses absorption maxima at 340 nm and 500 nm. Gelatin retards the formation of dye in the coupling reaction. With an amino acid, L-arginine, the observations are similar but more remarkable. It is proposed that the product is an animated quinonediimine.
