Abstract

The industrial application of infrared (IR) thermal imaging as a diagnostic monitoring tool is commonly known as thermography. Over recent years the number of industrial applications has increased primarily as a result of technological advancements associated with imaging (detector design) and software (analytical capability), resulting in extremely reliable and portable measurement instruments. This paper summarizes a number of industrial applications using thermography and includes an example of a bearing problem on a sophisticated processing machine.
