Abstract

In this paper, a new approach for colour image compression is proposed which involves the absolute moment block truncation coding (AMBTC) and the single bitmap generation scheme. The first-layer AMBTC encodes a colour image and then comes up with three bitmaps and six quantization level arrays. Then, the single bitmap generation scheme combines the three bitmaps into one. After that, the second-layer AMBTC encodes six quantization arrays. The experimental results show that our method can obtain satisfactory results when the colour image has a monotonous hue.
