Abstract
Object recognition is a very important task in industrial applications. In this paper, a new feature (the reciprocal of compactness of the triangles formed by two adjacent dominant points and the centroid of the object) is proposed for two-dimensional object recognition. A string matching technique is introduced to find the best matches. The experimental results indicate that using this new feature gives better recognition rates and more consistent performance than using conventional features. Another advantage of using the proposed feature is that no parameter needs to be set in the recognition process.
