Otelo Burning: On the turbulence of freedom

Notes

1 The need for housing in urban areas had led the migrant workers and the African petty bourgeois to agitate for the establishment of family units. The failure of the Durban municipality gave impetus to a class action which reached its zenith at the close of the 1920s. See Torr (Citation1987, 31; Citation1996).

2 It is a matter of historical record that the apartheid security forces armed Inkatha insurgents who sometimes actively escorted them in their murderous campaigns.

3 ‘Impimpi’ is a Zulu word for ‘informer’.
