Can the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) provide high-level descriptions of Scottish physiotherapy cases?

Pages 119-126 | Received 12 Dec 2007, Published online: 11 Jul 2009

Abstract

This study highlights the way the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used in the Scottish Executive Health Department-initiated Allied Health Professions Caseload Census across NHS Scotland in 2005, as a means of describing physiotherapy cases for the purpose of national comparative statistics. It discusses some questions and implications on physiotherapy, education, government, technology and terminology services.
