An analysis of mining mergers & acquisitions during 2000 and 2001 is taken as a starting point for a discussion of the slowly increasing concentration of metal mining industries in general and in the gold and iron ore industries in particular. Potential influences on metal prices are also addressed and considered to be low at present. The industry should however be kept under close watch.
