The UN and mineral exploration in developing countries

Pages 6-7 | Published online: 02 Apr 2009

Abstract

In 1988 one of the least known members of the UN system, The Revolving Fund for Natural Resources Exploration, could celebrate its fifteenth anniversary. The Revolving Fund supplies financial and technical aid to developing countries in crucial moments of exploration and exploitation of mineral deposits and geothermal reserves. It supplies risk capital to high-risk ventures. Jan af Geijerstam and Robert Lilljequist have visited three projects of the Revolving Fund: the Ananea placer gold deposit in Peru, the Yuscarán area in Honduras and the geothermal project of St Lucia.
